Mounting Your Print or Drawing

A Guide from Paul Wakefield

Thank you so much for your purchase! Whether you've received an original hand drawing or a fine art print, we want to make sure it looks absolutely brilliant on your wall - and stays that way for years to come.

This short guide will walk you through mounting your artwork in a frame using a mat (also called a mount board). A mat is a cardboard frame that sits between your artwork and the glass, which is essential for protecting the piece and giving it that lovely, gallery-quality finish.

What's in Your Package?

Along with your drawing or print, you'll find four strips of mounting tape. These aren't just any tape - they've been specifically selected to be acid-free, which is important for the long-term archival quality of your artwork. Acid-free materials prevent yellowing and deterioration over time, so your piece stays looking its best for generations.

What You'll Need

Step-by-Step Mounting Instructions

Step 1 - PositionHold your artwork behind the mat from the front, shifting it around until it sits exactly where you'd like it within the mat's window. Take your time here - there's no rush, and getting the position right is the most important step.
Step 2 - MarkOnce you're happy with the position, make a small, light pencil mark on the back of the artwork to record where it aligns with the mat. This will be your guide when you flip everything over.
Step 3 - Align Face DownTurn your mat over so it is face down on your clean, flat surface. Then place your print face down on top of the mat, carefully aligning it with the pencil marks you just made.
Step 4 - TapeTake your four strips of acid-free mounting tape and apply one strip to each side of the artwork - top, bottom, left, and right - securing it firmly to the back of the mat. Press each strip down gently but firmly.

Into the Frame

Your artwork is now perfectly mounted and ready to go straight into your frame. The mat will ensure the artwork sits away from the glass, which is exactly where it should be. Hang it up, step back, and enjoy!
