Arkle was an Irish-bred Thoroughbred racehorse and an absolute legend of a steeplechaser in the 1960s. He won three Cheltenham Gold Cups and a string of other major races before an injury cut his career short. At his peak, the horse was arguably more famous than The Beatles - and that's no exaggeration.
I found a profile photograph of Arkle and, because he was such an extraordinary animal, felt compelled to do a pen and ink drawing of him. The funny thing is, I discovered afterwards that Arkle and I share remarkably similar tastes. Apparently, he dined daily on two pints of Guinness, blended into his oats with an egg or two for good measure.
As it happens, a properly poured Guinness is my tipple of choice to this very day (but without the oats and eggs). The horse clearly had class.
