At one point, after drawing various local wildlife, I decided I wanted to include a few birds of prey in the collection as well. Not pigeons, obviously. Nobody hangs dramatic artwork of a pigeon on the wall unless they’ve completely given up.
There’s something magnificent about owls. They always look like they know an ancient secret but are disappointed you wouldn’t understand it.
This particular owl caught my eye immediately. Calm, watchful, slightly judgemental; rather like an old schoolmaster observing someone reversing badly in a supermarket car park.
The detail in the feathers made it a wonderful subject for pen and ink, and I wanted to capture that quiet intensity they have. Hopefully, you agree.
